Founder of the Poker Flat Recordings label, Steve Bug first started his DJ career in 1991. Born in Germany, Bug’s love for techno and acid house grew in its heyday which is still as apparent now as it was back then. It was clear to see the talent that ran through Bug from the start of his Djing days as with encouragement from Superstition’s Tobias Lampe, he went onto release his first productions in 1993. His Djing skills companied together with an innovative ear, saw Bug take a turn towards a fresher, hybrid sound merging stripped deep house, tweaked out acid and more minimal forms of techno.

Steve Bug defined himself a name within the industry after his first debut album ‘Volksworld’ which was released through his Raw Elements label, together with the classic compilation ‘Da Minimal Funk’. Compilations and singles continued to follow alongside the growth of the Raw Elements label, working with artists like Vincenzo, Märtini Brös and many more.

Breaking even more boundaries, Steve Bug went on to launch Poker Flat Recordings in 1999 and released ‘Loverboy’. This club hit introduced a darker, yet funky and grooving sound whilst still keeping a minimalistic feel to it and proved to show Bug new territories and new possibilities. Steve Bug holds a significant figure within the minimal tech house scene as his label once pioneered this sound. Alongside his first album for Poker Flat, ‘The Other Day’ it still stands as a testament to this futuristic genre.

Its not often you can catch Steve Bug playing live in London, but 25th Feb 2012 saw Poker Flat recordings host their first London rave. Held at Loft Studios, it was without doubt one of the best London raves I have been to. Steve Bug’s set had my soul from beginning to end as each tune he played was on point. In true House and Heels style we manage to put together some recordings of the night. So for those of you that unfortunately missed out, you can view what went down here:
