Spring is officially in the air which means longer days and lighter nights for everyone else, for fashion lovers it means updating your wardrobe with key seasonal pieces. Most of us don’t have the means for a complete wardrobe re-haul each season, but you can update your look with just a few new additions. Even better, you can pick pieces now that will work for autumn/winter too. Here’s our round-up of the top spring/summer trends that were seen on the the autumn/winter catwalks too.

1. Pastels
Pastels dominated the spring/summer catwalks and it seems as though designers aren’t ready to move on just yet. In a surprise swerve from the standard autumn palette of plum and black, this year designers peppered their autumn/winter collections with powdery pink, icy blue and the cold yellow of a winter morning. This season invest in a pastel coat or a jacket.

2.Florals

So it’s spring and florals are everywhere, as per usual. But the good news is that this year, you won’t have to put your pretty prints away come autumn. Flowers aren’t just for summer- the catwalks bloomed (albeit broodily) with gothic floral prints. This spring look for pale floral patterns on black backgrounds, which will work well next season.

3. Navajo blankets

You might well laugh, but there was nothing funny about the models strutting down the Burberry catwalk with Navajo blankets slung over one shoulder. The British weather is so volatile that you never know when an opportunity for sunbathing/outdoor drinking will present itself, so make sure you buy a blanket to have stashed in your bag at all times. Come autumn, you’ll be smugly sporting it draped over your shoulders à la Cara Delevigne.

You could get yourself a Navajo-style jacket instead, if you’re not convinced. Although I’m actually typing this article wrapped in a blanket… and it feels great.
