A collar is a powerful fashion tool, it can make an outfit, turn casual into classy and make a thrown together look  appear stylishly constructed. We spoke to Julia from JuliaHeartsU about her creations, what inspired her to start making collars and  her design process.

I studied Printed Textiles at University and went on to work as a design assistant for a high street supplier. From there I moved into garment technology, working at various suppliers then well-known retailers.
I also studied pattern cutting at the London College of Fashion in the evenings

How would you describe your brands style?
JuliaheartsU is definitely a unique brand, using recycled materials in a fashionable way

Who are your collars for? (who is your customer)
I have made collars for all sorts of people and occasions. They are for the twenty-something wanting to stand out in the crowd; they are for the forty-something looking to revive her wardrobe!

What do you think of the London fashion scene?
It is the best in the world. So eclectic, and so much choice. It can be overwhelming I think; so it is best to pick out key pieces you love and not to overstate your look.

Of your latest designs do you have a favourite piece?
The Ditzy Pearl collar is my fave at the moment – a girly print in a cool/edgy shape

Do you have a special fashion rule you live by?
Not really. I like what I like and go with it!

What is your biggest design inspiration?
I don’t really have just one inspiration. I take influence from lots of things; magazines, people around me.
